The toad has long been associated with magic and alchemy and is the epitome of the walker between worlds. My own interest has been its use in working with horses and nature, flora and fauna. There are consistent references to its use and rituals for its preparation in Horseman’s diaries and folklore.

Blacksmiths and Farriers would posses its bones to aid in their control of horses. A specially prepared toad can, it is said “charm the birds from the trees” and give its rightful owner the ability to compel both beasts and man. Other methods of harnessing its power lay in the use of a powder prepared from the toad. The toad is both a guide to these native British Isles and a feisty companion/familiar in other worldly journeys.
